Introduction
The continuous growth and transformation of the livestock sector offer substantial opportunities for agricultural development, food security gains, poverty reduction, and improved human nutrition. The sector can also empower rural women and youth, improve natural resource-use efficiency, and increase the resilience of households to cope with climate shocks.
Livestock contributes to nearly 40 percent of total agricultural output in developed countries and 20 percent in developing countries. It supports more than 1 billion people worldwide. Thirty-four percent of global food protein supply comes from livestock.
